Dump Your Timeshare! It’s Not Home Sweet Home.

You own your timeshare.  You have a mortgage on it, pay taxes and maintenance fees and have a deed to it, so it’s yours.  So it’s only one week out of the year, it’s still yours.

So if it’s yours, you should have the right to paint the walls your favorite colors.  You should have to the choice of the furnishings, mattresses and art work.  You should be able to stock your kitchen with copper pots and pans, china, silverware, a set of chef’s knives, a Keurig®, wine glasses and your favorite spices.  It’s your timeshare, so it should have personal items such as family photos, toiletries, big fluffy towels and special nick-knacks.

What’s wrong with this picture?

The truth is, you have a mortgage, pay taxes and maintenance fees and have a deed – and that’s it.  You share it with up to fifty-one other owners (hence the name timeshare) and don’t have the right to change anything about it.  You can’t bring anything of your own or it may be ruined, stolen or thrown out. You’re stuck with the way it is; its saggy mattresses, ugly wallpaper, and disorganized kitchen cabinets and drawers.  Nothing about it is actually yours, and it is the furthest thing from home sweet home.

Why even own timeshare?  Think about it.  There are so many resorts, rental homes and condominiums, hotels and motels to choose from these days via the internet.  Timeshare seemed like a great idea back in the day when finding a great room in your favorite vacation destination was difficult.  You could also trade it (or bank it) for a timeshare in a different location (so you thought).

Timeshare ownership has become an elephant on the backs of thousands of people.  They are sick of being forced to go to the same place every year, year after year.  Why forced? Because it would be a waste of all that money spent on buying it, and paying taxes and maintenance fees, and as so many owners have sadly figured out, trading your week for another rarely works out.  If you bank your week, chances are you could find it on a travel website, and POOF it’s gone.

Don’t despair!  There are several ways you can actually dump your timeshare week!
