Timeshare Telemarketer Admits $30 Million Fraud

Details from an Associated Press story have reported that ” A New Jersey woman pleaded guilty Thursday to federal charges that her telemarketing companies pitching bogus timeshare deals bilked $30 million from more than 22,000 victims across North America and Puerto Rico.”

The center of the fraud was when the employees of her company, Universal Marketing Solutions, told timeshare owners that they already had buyers for their timeshare. Then they would solicit several thousands of dollars for “closing costs” to get the deal closed – promising to refund the fees when the deals closed. They never had a buyer, never intended to find a buyer, and never refunded the fees.

She faces up to 25 years in prison and fines.
