In San Diego County registration has begun for the next timeshare, residential, and commercial property auction set for May 4 – 9, 2018.
In a series of increasingly successful property auctions the county has recovered millions of dollars and acquired several thousand tax paying owners. San Diego county is blessed with beautiful scenery, thoughtfully planned out timeshare resorts, and year ’round mild weather. Last August $7.8 million was raised in a similar auction. The upcoming timeshare auction is much larger with 900 plus timeshare units and numerous commercial properties foreclosed on for failure to pay taxes for 5 years.
The lowest suggested opening bid is $100 and the highest is $2,600. Some of the timeshares will be auctioned off for the minimum bid based on the last auction.
Timeshare owners pay an annual maintenance fee. The annual fee can range anywhere from $400 to well over $1,000. This fee includes the annual property tax due to the county and finances required to keep the buildings and facilities up to date and up to code. So when the owners fail to pay their annual fee after five years the timeshare is foreclosed on.
Many of these timeshare resorts opened in the early days of timeshare. As the facilities and owners have gotten older some buildings have fallen into disrepair or out of favor with trends. Owners’ situations have also changed so that they do not vacation like they used to. After a period of five years without paying the annual maintenance fees the resorts and the county began foreclosing on them. Thanks to the large number of resorts there is a continuously growing number of timeshares in the foreclosure “pool.”
Timeshare resorts in San Diego County include Four Seasons Aviara, Carlsbad Inn, Tamarac Inn, Coronado Beach Resort, Villa L’Auberge Resort, Winners Circle, Wave Crest, Lawrence Welk Resort and Spa, Casa de la Plaa, Blue Whale, Aquamarine, Southern California Beach Club, Capri by the Sea, Riviera Oaks, Gaslamp Plaza, Sand Pebbles, and San Diego Country Estates.
