During your first timeshare meeting you had a lot of timeshare industry language thrown at you. Some of the terms were familiar, but others seemed odd.
Annual maintenance fees? That seems simple. A fee you pay each usage cycle whether it is annual, bi annual, and so on.
Lockout unit? That may not be as straightforward. But it still makes sense that you can divide your timeshare in half by locking a middle door separating two sections.
What about the seasons of year you can use your timeshare like prime season, red season, or platinum? That seems straightforward once you have a calendar to look at and identify the weeks your timeshare is available.
The timeshare resort with the reputation for having the most season designations is without a doubt, The Manhattan Club. At the Manhattan Club you could own Platinum, Gold, or Silver depending on the demand of the season. Previously they were known as Red Season, High Red Season, or Ultra High Red Season. Or you could purchase 3 weekends a year (Galaxy Plan) with weekdays as separate ownership. Flex time allowed you to use your 7 nights scattered throughout the year.
And now the Manhattan Club rents out rooms designated Metropolitan Suites, Executive Suites, One Bedroom Suites, and City Lights Suites. The owners’ call them Junior Executive Suites, Penthouse Suites, One bedroom, Studio, and Executive Suites.
Now the moment you have all been waiting for. The first time for me to see this was today: “Full Moon” timeshares. Here’s one just put up for sale that is a Gold season, Penthouse unit, annual use on Full Moon weekends! Their asking price? $1,000. And it has an annual maintenance fee of roughly $3,000 a year.
That’s right! “Full Moon” timeshares.
Insert a punch line here. Something about a werewolf of New York?
Today we celebrate the absurdity of timeshare seasons and the owners who are left scratching their collective heads trying to figure out what they own.
If I had a Manhattan Club timeshare, I’d drop it like a hot potato.
