Do people planning their vacations heed the warnings of their government? Not really.
Recent studies are showing that this may be a case of our government “crying wolf” too often. If you were to read the State Department’s travel advisories you would find stern warnings about 35 different countries. Granted not too many folks are inclined to schedule a family vacation to Syria or Iran. But they don’t have to consult the State Department to figure that out. Daily news and warnings accomplish that.
Today, CNN’s story, “Do You Check Government Travel Warnings. . .” mentioned that one of the State Department’s most grim warnings is about Mexico. Yet an astounding number of people holiday or vacation in Mexico year after year. “The United States has had a travel warning in place for Mexico since April 2011. It states that “crime and violence are serious problems throughout the country and can occur anywhere. U.S. citizens have fallen victim to TCO (Transnational Criminal Organizations) activity, including homicide, kidnapping, carjacking and highway robbery.” The warnings haven’t stopped Americans from pouring into Mexico. In 2011, 20.1 million Americans visited Mexico.”
Travel to Mexico is an excellent study in this issue. For timeshare owners who live in the US and have timeshares in Mexico they need to stay familiar with local hot spots of violence and steer clear. As a timeshare owner in a foreign country you want to have the peace of mind that the property or lease you own at a beautiful resort will not be caught in the crossfire of warring factions of governments, civil war, or drug cartel battles.
Most of those kinds of actions have been focused away from the popular timeshare resort locations in Mexico. “Resort areas and tourist destinations in Mexico generally do not see the levels of drug-related violence and crime that is reported in the border region and in areas along major trafficking routes.” (State Department) Occasionally there will be violence that hits the news near your timeshare. Consider how much violence hits your city or state. Just keep it all in perspective.
Many major timeshare resorts are located in southern Baja. Cabo san Lucas is home to many fantastic timeshare resorts and according to the State Department’s website “Baja California (South): Cabo San Lucas and La Paz are major cities/travel destinations in the state of Southern Baja California – No advisory is in effect. ”
Timeshare resorts in Baja California Mexico are some of the most luxurious and affordable vacation condos in the timeshare world. Most notably are the timeshare resorts Pueblo Bonito Rose Resort, Hacienda del Mar, Pueblo Bonito Resort Los Cabos, Club Regina Los Cabos, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, Villa Del Palmar Cabo, Playa Grande Resort, Finisterra Club and Resort, Club Cascadas de Baja, and Fiesta Americana Vacation Club at Cabo del Sol.
The bottom line for most timeshare owners is to know that you will not have to have the specter of violence or civil war hanging over your head while you are on vacation. The mere notion of potential kidnappings, assassinations, or gun violence will deter many from using their timeshare in Mexico and they will exchange theirs for a safer location. It is a matter of personal confidence and comfort with your surroundings.
