The All Inclusive Timeshare – What Does It Cost?

Apr, 12 - 2015   no comments   Timeshare Advice

The cost of an all inclusive timeshare? It doesn’t cost much to buy one. In fact, it is usually the least expensive timeshare deal on the market. Whether you are “buying” a weekend in Cabo or buying 30 years of week long stays it can be much less than standard “deeded week” timeshares like you’d find in the US.

The cost of the maintenance fee on average runs a little less than the normal type of timeshare.

The cost you have to pay attention to are the “all inclusive” daily fees that have minimum days required, minimum participants based on the number of bedrooms versus number of people actually there, and a high price tag by most peoples’ standards.

BUT, they can be a great deal if you consider what you get, what you pay, and the convenience of their all inclusive program. And if you plan to simply spend your days at the resort, not go out exploring the area, and take all your meals at the timeshare, it might just be a better way to go for you.

Here’s an example of the fine print of a timeshare lease contract at the Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa: typical of what you’ll find with the Mexico all inclusive resorts:

Depending on the week of the year, the all inclusive fee here ranges from the low season daily rate of $60 up to the highest rate of $160! That’s per day per person. This includes all meals, alcohol, beverages, mini bar, 24 hr room service and a variety of other amenities like the pools, spa, activities, water sports, etc. Every timeshare resort is a little different and may charge extra for airport shuttle, bus service, and other types of activities that may involve a rental of some sort.

PLUS, every room has a minimum number of people they will charge you for. If your one bedroom unit is rated for a maximum of 4 people occupancy you will be charged 4 times the daily all inclusive fee. NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN YOUR ROOM! The total inclusive fee for the week in a low season for two people in a one bedroom would be 4 x 60 x 7=$1,680. The week of New Years? $4,480! Happy New Year.

There are several things here I should point out.

The all inclusive timeshare can work out for you if  (1) you stay in the smallest size unit you can be comfortable in. If there are only two in your party, stay in a studio, not the one bedroom. (2) Take all your meals at the timeshare, not out in town. (3) If you want a fixed price vacation. (4) If you don’t want to worry about the cost of each meal or each drink. (5) If you don’t plan on extras like tours or massages.

That’s about the size of it!

And always remember to read the FINE PRINT!
